Notes
for Leaders of Studies
for New Believers
The aim of
these 4 studies is to establish and affirm and confirm new Christians in their
decision to follow Jesus.
·
The material
is simple. It is not the purpose to teach lots of doctrine, or to use every
Bible text on the subject!
·
The studies
are short, but can be talked through and considered more deeply where questions
are raised, or where a new believer has a problem or need.
·
Be prepared!
Study the material beforehand, and soak it in prayer. Jot down other scriptures
to help you answer questions
·
Use the Word!
It is powerful. 2 Tim 3:16 and Heb 4:12.
Compare different modern translations when possible.
·
Be careful of
giving opinions – read the Word for answers.
·
Be happy and
enthusiastic about what you are sharing from the Word.
·
Depend on the
Holy Spirit. If you get stuck, breathe a silent prayer to Him for help. He has
all the counsel and wisdom of the Lord for you.
·
Ask the Holy
Spirit for His anointing for you, and for Him to minister to everyone in the
group.
·
Remember the
new Christian may have no previous knowledge of the Bible. Don’t expect they
can find John’s gospel for instance. Use every opportunity to help them find
their way round, and explain what text references mean, and the difference
between the Old and New Testaments. Keep it simple! Show them the index!
·
Do not enter
into argument. Listen and be courteous, and steer any debate back to the
simplicity of the written Word.
·
Give time for
sharing and praying for each other – for needs, family situations, health
problems etc. Encourage the new believer to pray as well. Use simple
understandable language.
·
Finally go for
it with love and kindness and thoughtfulness for each person. Show them the
love of Christ. Pray for them between meetings. And trust the Lord that each
will grow in Him, and be transformed in
His love.
